Abstract
This study investigated the causes and effects of Domestic Violence on married Men of Anglican
Church of Kenya (ACK) Deanery in Othaya District, Nyeri County. The study area is situated on
the slopes of Aberdare Ranges and bounders the Nyayo tea zone - a stripe where tea was planted
during president Moi era. The study used a qualitative design whereby the scholars in Africa are
able to effectively address social issues that affect the individuals and families. The study
randomly selected a sample of thirty Married Men from the study population of one hundred and
twenty Married Men for the survey and issued them with questionnaires to fill. The study
interviewed key informants among them (Two Chiefs) one from Ruruguti village and another
from Gitundu village. The literature review suggested that underlying reason for domestic
violence (Men battery) is due to patriarchal systems in the society. These systems’ dictates that
Men have the overall authority of the family and are not under the rule of anyone. The research
Investigates the Violence Against Men in ACK Ruruguti Deanery, the Causes of Violence
Against Men in ACK Ruruguti Deanery, the Effects of Violence Against Men in ACK Ruruguti
Deanery and also Assesses the Counseling role the Church is praying to curb the Violence
Against Men in ACK Ruruguti Deanery. The research found domestic violence to be a causal
reaction dual to Men engaging in alcoholism. There is suspicion of infidelity from spouses,
which cause Men to suffer psychologically and emotionally and there is no likelihood of battered
Men reporting the case to family and friends. The research recommends the Church to take
Counseling role among the affected individuals in order to restructure the society.
