performance, a case of the National Police Service (NPS), Limuru Sub-County. The specific
objectives were; to determine the influence of leadership styles on the performance of NPS, to
assess the influence of training on the performance of NPS, to determine the influence of
motivation on the performance of NPS and to establish the influence of reforms on the
performance of NPS. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The target population was
240 officers of the National Police Service in Limuru Sub County and a sample size of 80
0fficers. Systematic random sampling method was used in collecting primary data through
questionnaires which had both structured and non-structured questions. They were pilot tested to
check for validity and reliability. Validity of the questionnaire was established through literature
review and experts from the field of study. Reliability of the questionnaire was determined by
cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.7 and the questionnaire was internally consistent based on the
0.972 which met the threshold. The researcher received back 79 questionnaires which
represented 98.75%. The researcher used SPSS to generate descriptive statistics for easier
interpretation of data. Presentation of data was done through frequency distribution tables, pie
charts and bar charts for easy interpretation. Regression analysis was used to establish the
relationships among the variables. Regression analysis results were used to interpret data
regarding the entire population so as to reach informed conclusions. From the findings it was
noted that strategic change management practices had an influence on organizational
performance. Motivation had the most influence on organizational performance. The study
recommended that motivation should be given emphasis as there is a strong relationship between
it and organizational performance. It was also recommended that NPS should offer seminars,
workshops, promotional and management courses to serving officers to better their skills. The
organization should be flexible in adopting participatory form of leadership and fully adopt the
reforms.
