Abstract

The history of Christian-Muslim Relations in many parts of the world has been characterized by conflicts. The nature of these conflicts could be resource-based, ideological differences, theological differences or power politics. Whatever the nature of the conflicts may be this has always had adverse effects on the peaceful co-existence, development and security of the people. Hence the need to strive for peace at all cost. Over the years women have been involved in conflict resolution and reconciliation in their various communities, however their efforts have not always been given due attention or recognized as they should. This is because most of the women’s peace initiatives are non-formal and consequently gender and women perspectives have been excluded from formal peace processes, decision-making organs as well in peace negotiation tables. Religion and culture have also contributed to women’s exclusion in public participation. Despite these obstacles women still have a contribution to make in the field of conflicts resolution and reconciliation. This study therefore seeks to investigate the role of women in Christian-Muslim conflict resolution and reconciliation in Kisauni District. The span of period of reference is from the 19th century up to date.
