Islamophobia refers to the irrational fear, prejudice, or hostility directed towards Islam and Muslims, and significantly undermines interfaith relationships, fostering mistrust, social division, discrimination, and violence. The study sought to investigate the effects of Islamophobia on Christian-Muslim relations in Mumias West Sub-County. The study explored how Islamophobia has influenced interactions in the Mumias community, affecting societal cohesion (in other words interconnectedness) and peaceful coexistence. The study aimed to establish the nature of initial relations in the advent of Christianity and Islam, in Mumias West Sub County, to establish the extent of Islamophobia in Mumias West Sub County, to examine the impact of Islamophobia on Christian-Muslim Relations in Mumias West Sub County and to construct mitigative means of dealing with Islamophobia enhancing Christian-Muslim relations in Mumias West Sub-County. By examining the broader impact of Islamophobia on the Mumias community, the study identified obstacles to positive Christian-Muslim relations and proposed strategies to improve interfaith interactions. Using a Social Cohesion Theory to guide the Study, a qualitative research approach, and a phenomenological design, the study collected data through open-ended questionnaires, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions. A purposive sampling technique was used in selecting participants clustered into three, Christians, Muslims, and religious leaders. A total of 18 interviews, 57 open-ended questionnaires, and 2 focused group discussions of 22 participants were conducted. Data analysis was done using thematic analysis, with findings presented in figures and tables. The results demonstrated complex dynamics in the initial interactions revealing how Islamophobia adversely affects Christian-Muslim relations in Mumias West Sub-County, driven by attitudes, intolerance, historical legacies, religious differences, and socio-political factors. The study concludes that addressing Islamophobia requires comprehensive measures such as education, open dialogue, community support, interfaith initiatives, and robust government strategies to foster inclusivity and strengthen community cohesion.en_US
