Abstract
Globally and locally, the youth constitute a greater percentage both in churches and in
non- religious circles. In the 21st century, Protestant churches have experienced mass
exodus of the youth to charismatic and Pentecostal movements. The EARM was a
movement began by the vibrant youth within the Protestant Church in Ruanda. The
movement has been experiencing mass exodus of the youth charismatic movements in
the 21st century. The aim of this research was to analyze the role the youth played in
EARM from its inception in Nyanza and particularly in Bondo and also try to find out
the allegation that it appears that the youth have been withdrawing from the same
Movement. The research was conducted in what was then central Kavirondo which is
today known as Siaya County with specific reference to ACK Bondo Diocese. The
research was based on written and oral narratives where by old members of the EARM
were interviewed; the leadership of the EARM was also interviewed. The youth who
were saved but were not members of the EARM were also interviewed. Some clergy of
the Anglican Church were also interviewed. The research discovered that EARM was
initiated by vibrant youth who have now grown old. Their nature and legalism pushed
the youth of new generation away from the movement. The research also discovered
that there was need for another revival to change the world views of the EARM
members and the youth so that they can be able to work together. This could be
achieved through theological training, attending conferences, seminars and initiating
vibrant programmes that attract the youth.
