Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine whether the economic status of Christians had any relationship with financial contributions in ACK Kirinyaga Diocese. A combination of both qualitative and quantitative methods was applied to establish the factors which influenced the level of financial contributions in the church. It also sought to establish whether the church’s effort to empower the Christians through the P.E.P program was effective in raising the economic status of the Christians and whether the same was reflected in the financial contributions in the church. The data collected was analyzed through SPSS and excel computer programs. The churches where the study was carried were in Kabare, Kiandangae and Wang’uru archdeaconries in ACK Kirinyaga diocese. On the basis of the findings, it was established that the economic status of the Christians was low and many of them survived on less than 2 dollars per day. These consequently determined their level of financial contributions in the church. In this case, it was revealed that the church has a great role as an agent of integral mission or transformational development within herself and the society at large. Among other recommendations, the church should play the fundamental role of empowering the Christians (w) holistically.
