Abstract
The potential of youth to become the agents of social and economic change has not been
achieved due to challenges of unemployment since youth have not been able to obtain decent
jobs. The paper is based on literature review and secondary data from print media which
included the daily nation the daily standard and the business daily to examine the impact of
agribusiness among the youth on climate change. The study was guided by the following
objectives: To establish youth adoption in agribusiness activities; to establish the effects of
agribusiness on climate change; to examine the policy implications on agribusiness, youth and
climate change in Kenya. The study revealed that agribusiness activities have adverse effects on
climate change. From the study it was revealed that most activities in agribusiness produce a
greenhouse effect due to emission of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide
which has contributed towards climate change. As a result of the climate change the agribusiness
activities are also being affected leading to low yield and low profits thus poor economy.. The
study also recommends policy formulation on land ownership by young people for incentives in
agribusiness involvement. The government need to formulate easier way of accessing the youth
fund in order have capital which will enable the youth to afford better technology and which
will not only reduce global warming but also will bring about high yield hence high profits.
Proposed future research needs include agribusiness activities which cause less greenhouse effect
in order to reduce global warming hence climate change.
